Summary and Background |
We are a group of property owners in Village of Cascade and Town of Lyndon Wisconsin that will be negatively impacted by the Village of Cascade’s ambition to build wind turbines to power their Waste Water Treatment Plant.
We applaud the Village’s effort to create a progressive implementation of a renewable resource to power the treatment plant, however want to ensure that the decision makers in the Village and adjacent towns are properly informed about other renewable resources, particularly solar and biogas.
A solar method of powering the WWTP has incentives, grants and timely financial opportunities, would be in keeping with the appetite of the Village board to be ‘progressive’, provide the educational requirement as stated in some of the incentives and has comparable cost efficiencies.
A Solar implementation would virtually eliminate the negative impacts associated with the wind turbine project and serve as a model for surrounding communities.
It's simple - The Village of Cascade should pursue a non-wind implementation. Those actions would truly create a win-win and demonstrate that your elected officials are not willing to sacrifice health, safety, quality of life and a major expenditure to accomplish their goals.

There is nothing "Small" about "Small Wind"
|
Wind-Scam.org's research has concluded that there are not enough substantiated positive facts about wind energy to make this an appropriate consideration for our area.
There are reams of documentation compiled by organizations in many countries regarding the known risks associated with erecting and operating wind turbines. Most importantly, these wind systems do not work as promised to bring the Total Cost Of Ownership (TCO) into alignment with the benefits touted at contract inception.
Numerous cases exist whereby residents were forced to take legal action to shut down nearby wind turbines. Some right here in the Midwest. It is unfortunate that people are left with no choice but to seek injunctive relief after they realize that they were indeed lied to regarding quality of life issues such as noise and shadow flicker.
These activities require legal action and expense on the part of residents.
We are merely attempting to inform the Village of Cascade and Town of Lyndon, Wisconsin elected officials that wind turbines are not an appropriate consideration for our area and it would be extremely detrimental to force this upon the taxpayers.
We were told by the 'wind consultant' hired by the Village that the wind turbines would throw shadow flicker for 5 - 10 minutes a day and that we will NOT hear any noise beyond 492 feet.
Both of these serious concerns have been refuted by experts who say the shadow flicker will be along the lines of 5 to 6 hours a day (depending on time of year) and that the noise metric is laughable. We were informed that we will definitely hear noise (rotor swish and low frequency hum) beyond 492 feet.
The Village of Cascade has contracted with a 'wind consultant' to deliver two Northwind 100 turbines. We queried the 'wind consultant' on his experience with noise from a Northwind 100 wind turbine. We asked him directly if he has ever heard one or two turbines in operation. His response was "I've been to the factory". Needless to say, our comfort level with that level of expertise is sorely lacking, why doesn't the Village board feel the same way?
We support sound scientific solutions, however wind turbines do not deliver the best value in offsetting costs associated with powering the Village of Cascade Waste Water Treatment Plant.
